Help At-Risk and Underprivileged Youth Experience Climbing

Somewhere in your life an individual took the time to expose you to climbing. It could have been a family member, a school club, or a close friend. Whoever that person was, they helped change the course of your life forever. Now you have the chance to do the same, and more importantly, you’ll be helping someone that doesn’t have the resources to get involved on their own. If you’re interested in volunteering with At-Risk and Underprivileged youth in San Diego, please contact Rachel Rabinor at Rachel@outdooroutreach.org. Outdoor Outreach is a local non-profit that takes kids out climbing, surfing, mountain biking, snowboarding and more, helping them gain important confidence and self esteem through participation in these activities. Mission Trails AACAdopt-A-Crag Volunteer Opportunity
Adopt-A-Crag Volunteer Service Project: Mission Trails

Where: Mission Trails Regional Park
When: Saturday, January 12th, 2008 - 8am-1pm
Information: The Allied Climbers of San Diego teamed up with the Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation, The Access Fund, and REI for a day of trail maintenance which included fence building, erosion prevention, seeding, and habitat restoration. It was a beautiful day and the recent rains left the ground soft which made the trail work a little easier. The event was a big success with a large number of volunteers who made short work of the tasks at hand.

Adopt-A-Crag Volunteer Event

Santee: Adopt-A-Crag Volunteer Service Project

Thanks to all of you who helped out at this Access Fund Adopt-A-Crag event and made it a big success. Approximately 40 volunteers filled bag after bag with trash for a couple of hours before sunset. Most even squeezed in a few boulder problems under the fading light. REI was also on-hand, providing pizza, cold drinks, gloves, and trash bags, and ACSD sponsors Prana, REI, and LG provided door prizes to pass out.

Projects like this give us a chance to give back to the climbing community and go a long way toward helping maintain access to climbing areas. Check back here for more service projects in the coming months.

Bolt Replacement

The ACSD always encourages safe climbing, and we'd like to take this opportunity to talk about some local bolt replacement that has been going on lately. We've also included a little feedback from one of those involved in the bolt replacement on how to stay safe, as well as who to contact if you encounter unsafe bolts. <More Info>
