Where: Kit Carson Elementary School <map> When: Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007 - 7pm Information: ACSD would like to thank the Access Fund for their visit and continued support! It was a great opportunity to meet the people responsible for helping to protect our rights across the nation. We would also like to thank those who ventured out despite the ongoing tragedy here in San Diego County. For those who planned on attending and were not able to due to the fires, we hope to have the Access Fund back again in the near future.

Volunteer Opportunity

Volunteer Service Project: Table Mountain (Valley of the Moon)
Where:Valley of the Moon Kiosk (In-Ko-Pah Rd. exit off the I-8 East)
When: Saturday, September 29th, 2007 - 9am-1pm
Information:ACSD joined the BLM and other volunteers on National Public Lands Day to help clean up Table Mountain and the area which provides access to Valley of the Moon. The day started off a little windy, but was a great success. We filled several trucks with trash and had a great time. After the clean up was over some volunteers even stayed to get in some climbing. We look forward to working with the BLM again in the future. Check out some photos of the event:

2007 Reel Rock Film Tour Presents "King Lines"

Information: Join us on September 5th for the 2007 Reel Rock Film Tour which features the new film King Lines by award-winning filmmakers Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer. King Lines follows rock climbing phenomenon Chris Sharma on his global quest for the hardest and most inspiring climbs, including a rope less ascent of Es Pontas, a spectacular arch surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea. Sharma scales mysterious boulders in Venezuela, untouched limestone walls in France, and works on a breakthrough climb in the Mojave Desert. The journey unveils Sharma's private personality as he restlessly pursues new places where he can define his sport.

ACSD Member Meeting

REI presents ACSD with $4,000 Grant! - Member Meeting @ Mountain Mike's Pizza <Event Photos>

Where: Mountain Mike's Pizza (map) off Clairemont Drive When: Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 - 7pm Information: REI's local Outreach Specialist Tim Szlachetka was on hand to present the ACSD with a generous grant from REI. We can't say enough how much we all appreciate the support we've gotten from REI. Thank you REI! Also, Mountain Mike's Pizza donated 20% of their sales to those with ACSD flyers on Tuesday. We appreciate the support they've given us as well. Talk at the meeting encompassed topics from member information packets that will be coming out soon, to recent Mt Woodson graffiti removal, to the possibility of producing some ACSD T-Shirts. Adopt-A-Crag Volunteer Event
August 9th, 2007 - 6-8pm
Santee: Adopt-A-Crag Volunteer Service Project
Thanks to all of you who helped out at this Access Fund Adopt-A-Crag event and made it a big success. Approximately 40 volunteers filled bag after bag with trash for a couple of hours before sunset. Most even squeezed in a few boulder problems under the fading light. REI was also on-hand, providing pizza, cold drinks, gloves, and trash bags, and ACSD sponsors Prana, REI, and LG provided door prizes to pass out.

Projects like this give us a chance to give back to the climbing community and go a long way toward helping maintain access to climbing areas. Check back here for more service projects in the coming months.
